Why Invest in ICU Small Animal Rugs?

We have been in business for over 8 years and our business is growing from strength to strength with the return of satisfied clients purchasing more rugs. We know if proper care is taken maintaining your Rugs you will be rewarded with many kidding seasons of use and less mortalities and unwell kids and you are able to leave your kids with their birthmother and not break their bond.

The Design of Our Kid Rug

Our design is simple but with the newborn upmost consideration has been considered.

This design has worked extremely well from Premature Newborns these little ones are so small is why we decided to make rugs that will fit even the smallest of your miniature kid's hitting the ground.

The front of the rug you just slip over the head of the Newborn there are no buckles or clips to do up. The front is put together with a very soft UV treated Lycra it will give to accommodate the chest of the newborn and has enough stretch as the kid grows.

It’s important that if you place any type of rug on your newborns not to restrict their movement. Therefore, we have a gap in the front of our rugs to allow the newborn to be able to fully extend their front legs when wanting to get up.

Our Allrounder Kid Rug

Allrounder rugs are the same design but without the pouch for a heat pad. Not all kids will require a rug with a heat pouch. Often you need a rug to keep the chill off them or if they are out in the weather and they need that bit of TLC keeping adverse weather off them.

The “U” Cut

Our rugs have been designed with a “U” cut in the tail section of the rug. This allow the birthmother to easily I.D her offspring’s scent. Also, this keeps the weight off the tail dock to prevent any damage to the nerves in this area.

No Belly Strap

There is no belly strap around the centre of the rug which enables the birthmother to lick and clean her offspring’s umbilical cord and allows air flow to circulate in this area.

With male newborns this also stops them urinating on a belly strap which again could cause infection to the umbilical cord area more hygienic.

Our rug has been made for balance on your newborns so there isn’t any need for a belly strap.

Leg Straps

Leg straps are made from a strong elastic that should see the life of the rug out, and the best thing is all you must do is slip their head through the front of the rug and pull their hind legs through the loop of the leg strap and adjust for comfort.

These are sewn into the hem of the rug, and they fasten onto “D” rings low on the rug keeping chills and drafts off the newborn.

The Outer Fabric

Keeping in mind that we didn’t want to make a rug that was heavy especially for newborns. We discovered a fabric that is waterproof/windproof and breathable. This fabric is as light as a feather.

This fabric is 5000/mm meaning that it is waterproof up to 5 metres of rain before it should leak. The liner of the out shell is 5000/gsm being that it will wick up to a square metre of moisture in a 24-hour block.

The membrane also in this fabric stops the cold from entering the fabric, this in turn keeps the newborn body temperature normal.

The Liner That Is Used to Line the Inside of The Rug

The inner layer is a double-sided thermal fabric that wicks moisture away from the animal’s skin whilst circulating heat around the newborns body. This fabric works extremely well in cold conditions even if the animal is not active, it will keep the body heat circulating.

Both the outer layer and the liner have been treated against bacterial, mould and is odourless.

Being odourless this enables you to place the rug on multiple animals without the birthmother being confused over the scent of her offspring.

ICU Small Animal Rugs Are Safe to Place on Newborn Animals Still Wet with Amniotic Fluid

This is a bonus with our ICU Small Animal Rugs being able to place a rug on your newborn still covered in amniotic fluid. If you are using a rug with a pouch that you can inserted a heat pad.

This is due to our combination of the outer shell and the lining of our rug with its wicking ability to dry the newborn under the rug by placing a heat pad in the pouch of this rug.

The heat pads warm up slowly as to not place the newborn in shock. Also, by keeping a good body temperature of their nutrients will hold them in good stead and their first feed of colostrum is going to give them a head start of wellbeing.
